Summary A midsummer night’s dream, is set in ancient Greece. It follows the story of Lysander and Hermia, two lovers. However, Hermia is betrothed to Demeter, because her father doesn’t like Lysander. So Hermia and Lysander plot to run away that night, and elope. Hermia tells her best friend Helena about this plan. Helena, who loves Demeter, tells him about Hermia’s plan, in an attempt to get him to like her. So they all end up in the forest. Meanwhile Oberon wants to marry Titania, who doesn’t want to marry. So Oberon gets his servant Puck to go get this flower that will make the person its used on fall in love with the first person they lay eyes on. He also tells Puck to make Demeter fall in love with Helena because he felt sorry for her. However puck stuffs up and Lysander ends up falling in love with Helena, and Titania falls in love with an actor named Bottom who was practising in the forest, and also because of puck has a donkey head. Oberon comes in and fixes everything and they all fall in love with the right person and get married.

Themes
A Midsummer Night’s Dream contains themes of Love, Dreams and Magic. The theme of love is shown throughout the play between Lysander and Hermia and Helena and Demetrius. The theme of magic is shown when the magic flower juice is used to make people fall in love to the next thing they see and the theme of Dreams is shown when characters in the play try to explain weird things that have happened to them so they brush it off as just a dream like bottom as seen in this quote “I have had a most rare vision. I have had a dream—past the wit of man to say what dream it was. Man is but an ass if he go about to expound this dream.”
